Dear Sir or Madam,

Today, I attempted to attend your current exhibition, Freisteller, with the intention of reviewing it for the web site, disorientations.com. Upon presenting my international press card to your employee, Heike Schlenger, I was told that it is not valid at your institution. I was quite surprised as, having traveled throughout many countries, I have never before been denied entrance to any museum or cultural institution upon presentation of my press credentials. This was certainly a first, and I was not permitted to enter the exhibition.

Having written about your exhibitions in the past for a number of different periodicals, I was shocked by your employees’ blatant show of disrespect for my position as a journalist.

From my experience today, I can only conclude that the Deutsche Guggenheim’s unfriendly attitude towards the press represents a lack of seriousness and professionalism within the organization. For this reason, I will no longer be attending your exhibitions or writing about them. What is more, I will be posting this letter on disorientations.com in lieu of the review of Freisteller that was supposed to go there, as I feel that the public should be made aware that the Deutsche Guggenheim’s central mission seems to be the collection of admission money, rather than engaging the public in a meaningful dialogue about art. Anyway, as the brief glance inside I was permitted today revealed that the museum was completely empty, it seems that you are currently managing to accomplish neither of these tasks.

Sincerely,

Travis Jeppesen
